Strength and success go hand in hand. If you want success in your life you must be able to be strong and accepting of new things in your own personal lives. You may wonder what makes a person strong and how they got that way. Strength isn’t something that comes overnight, but it is something that can be found through love, support, and great friends and family. Strong people have a better chance of succeeding in their own lives and becoming greater people.

Strength and Virtue

Character Strengths and Virtues is a groundbreaking handbook that was created built on reports from a prestigious group of researchers who have attempted to create a systematic classification and measurements of widely valued positive traits. The aim was to present a measure of humanist ideals of virtue in an empirical and scientific way. This handbook intends to provide a theoretical framework that will help assist positive psychology practitioners in developing practical applications for the field. There are six classes of virtue that are made up of 24 character strengths:

  1. Wisdom and Knowledge
  2. Courage
  3. Humanity
  4. Justice
  5. Temperance
  6. Transcendence

Researchers approached the measurement of “good character” based on different kinds of strengths: authenticity, persistence, kindness, gratitude, hope, humor, and so on. These are the virtues that make people successful and allow them to enjoy their own lives.

There are simple and effective methods for developing these powers and attaining inner strength:

  1. Refusing to satisfy unimportant or unhealthy desires.
    2.Doing things that are useful, but which you resist doing.

By overcoming inner resistance to do a certain task you develop inner power and strength.

Refusing to satisfy useless, harmful or unnecessary desires, and abstaining from negative reactions adds to your inner strength. Intentionally acting contrary to your habits, on certain occasions, would sharpen and strengthen your inner strength.

You get stronger through constant practice, just like exercising your muscles at a gym makes your muscles stronger. In both cases, when you need inner power or physical strength, they are available to you and are at your immediate disposal.

These are only a few examples to show you how you can develop your inner strength. By practicing these or similar exercises you gain inner power, which you can use when you are in need of it. Practicing these simple exercises, and later, more advanced ones, you develop your inner muscles, just like lifting barbells develops your physical muscles.

You need these skills for the efficient handling of all your activities and decisions. You need them for doing a good job, for success in business, for studying, losing weight, exercising, maintaining good relationships, changing habits, self-improvement, meditation, spiritual growth, keeping promises and for almost everything else.
